TOUCH OF SOUND

The Touch of Sound series explores how sounds, silence and listening can have an effect upon our physical and mental well-being.
How do certain sounds effect our experience? What experience does it create?

We have a series of four sessions for you to relax, unwind and enjoy, that take you on a journey with sounds old and new, using simple practices of movement, meditation and different approaches to listening, to refine our perception of sound and how it moves us.

SOUND WEAVING EXPERIENCE
with Gabriella Songbird & Heather Cowan

'Sound Weaving Experience' an inspiring & mysterious evening of sound, not to be missed, with Gabriella Songbird & Heather Cowan.

An opportunity to drop into the power and beauty of stillness and the mystery of creation. With a wide range of musical instruments like cello, zither, flutes with metal sound instruments, singing bowls, gongs, tubular bells hand crafted by Heather and Gabriella in their own forge the duo weaves music that opens, relaxes and creates coherence - allowing body, mind and soul to find greater harmony.

"Words do not seem enough to express the beauty that the sound weavers Gabriella and Heather created in their concert"

Gabriella and Heather both came from a classical music background and both changed direction through experiences with nature. Using their skills and sensitivities they allow the spirit of place and time and all of those present to inspire and inform the soundscape that is woven.

DIDGERIDOO MEDITATION
with Matt Cross

A chance to Meditate, Contemplate or just Chill Out to the Ancient & Healing Sounds of the Didgeridoo.  The indigenous Australian Yidaki or Didgeridoo is possibly one of the oldest wind instruments in the world, traditionally used by the Aboriginal people of Australia in sacred ceremonies, story telling, musical pleasure and healing.

The Didge, when played, creates a calm, relaxed yet energised state for both the player and the listener and has the capacity to awaken deep feelings within us, which are both soothing and healing.  During the session Matt uses a combination of the Didgeridoo, Shamanic Drum, Singing Bowl and other natural percussive sounds.

These are some words that people have used to describe there experience of hearing didgeridoo sounds: deeply touching, awe inspiring, magical, powerful, primal, mesmerizing, calming, enchanting, soothing, mystical, relaxing, earthy.

SOUNDS INSPIRATIONAL
with Chris Sangster & Jackie Winsor

Relax into the world of guided sound meditation with Chris Sangster & Jackie Winsor, where you will be bathed in a magical mix of sounds, created by a wide range of instruments from around the world. From Chinese gongs to Tibetan and crystal bowls; Freenotes to Native American flute, the sounds and intervening silences will transport you to an atmosphere and mindset where you can enter the alpha and theta states of deeper meditation. The session begins with a guided relaxation and meditation/visualisation, naturally progressing to an intuitive sequence of sounding, based on a theme selected for the evening.

Chris and Jackie – as “Sounds Inspirational” – have been developing and performing sound baths over several years,
having studied widely and attended a range of voice and instrumental training workshops. Both are qualified teachers (with Chris having music as part of his degree) and have been involved with various areas of music throughout their lives. Using an ever-widening range of  instruments, they have developed sound combinations and sequences (linked with colours and moods) to create a range of themed sound experiences to respond to different healing, meditative and spiritual conditions.

HANGHANG DUO

with Barry Mason & Lina Lotto

HANGHANG DUO offer an evening to both receive and make music using hangs, udus and other hand made instruments that lend themselves to quiet contemplation.  Starting with a sound journey, and then, after a break for tea, introducing the instruments, before developing a "hands on" session in which everyone will be invited to participate.

Barry has been playing drums and percussion since an early age, as well as teaching for 20 years. His career as a musician has progressed from rock to jazz to world music, and is now happily involved in fields in which rhythm and melody are used in sound healing and meditation as well as contemporary music.  In 2006 he discovered the Hang, and was immediately enchanted by its deeply moving soundscape and huge musical potential. He gives regular performances and workshops, involving the hang and other handpans, udus, and associated percussion instruments.

Lina's interest in rhythm started 10 years ago when she heard the polyrhythmic sounds of African drumbeats. Since that time Lina has learned to play various percussive instruments.  Her love affair with the Hang began in 2006 and in 2009 she received her own. Lina has had a lifelong interest in health, wellbeing and meditative practice. The hang’s extraordinary capacity to lead both player and listener into a peaceful and often moving inner realm remains a source of delight and discovery.
